What is pineapple grenade?

Pineapple grenade refers to a type of hand grenade that was commonly used by the United States military during World War I and World War II. It received its name due to its resemblance to a pineapple fruit, with a segmented exterior and indentations that resembled the eyes of a pineapple.

The pineapple grenade was designed to be thrown by hand and detonate upon impact, typically releasing shrapnel in all directions. It had a curved metal body with a serrated surface that provided a better grip for throwing. The grenade was fitted with a safety pin that had to be removed before it could be activated.

The pineapple grenade was eventually replaced by newer and more efficient designs, such as the M26 and M67 grenades. However, it remains an iconic symbol of warfare from the early 20th century. Today, pineapple grenades are often used as decorative items or collector's pieces, although they are no longer in active military use.
